Tamil Nadu Fire now ‘Disaster Ready’ in all districts

Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) is the first responder for major emergencies and disasters and is completely spread over all districts of the State. The Department has been at the fore front of flood rescue too with Tamil Nadu being regularly hit by torrential rain during the receding monsoons.

Indian Rescue Academy completed training of firemen and young officers from TNFRS in Integrated Technical Rescue Course. The training was conducted on Muthukadu Beach and TN Fire Academy Tambaram. ‘The training has equipped the force to an international standard and we will now be disaster ready. We are also increasing the number of Scuba Divers with the force as there is a huge requirement for body retrieval capacity at the district level.’ said Mr B K Ravi IPS, Director General of Police and Director of TNFRS.

The training has been very successful and the results have been outstanding. The commitment of the trainees is testament to the quality and ethos of the Force, said Bharath Ponnaganti, Director (Training) for Indian Rescue Academy.
